Dutch startup BlueBird Power has attracted attention for its new bidirectional EV charger, designed to combine straightforward installation with smart home-energy management.

Bouwen & Installatie Hub recently featured the BlueSky charger, highlighting its installation process, solar-charging capabilities and support for bidirectional charging.

Designed for straightforward installation

BlueBird Power says the charger was developed with simple installation in mind. Mounting the charger and connecting it to the internet takes an average user approximately 12 minutes.

This estimate does not include routing the power cable or making changes to the fuse box. These parts of the installation require more time and electrical expertise. Although the charger is designed to simplify the process, most customers are still expected to use a certified installer for the electrical work.

Smart charging with solar energy

The BlueSky charger connects to the BlueBird Power app, where homeowners can configure charging schedules, set departure times and choose the desired vehicle battery level.

With a minimum charging power of 1.4 kW, the charger can make effective use of surplus electricity from solar panels. When combined with a dynamic electricity tariff, it can automatically schedule charging for periods when electricity prices are lower.

Customers can explore both the BlueSky Tethered Home Charger and the BlueSky Socket Home Charger.

Preparing for bidirectional charging
