Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a home charger cost?

A home charger typically costs between €500 and €1200 incl. VAT. Advanced chargers fall on the higher end of this range. We think that’s too expensive. Thanks to our smart design, we’re at the lower end—even though our charger uses premium components and offers the most advanced features.

How much does it cost to install a home charger?

Installing a home charger typically costs between €300 and €1000. It depends on the condition of your fuse box and whether (and how much) digging is required.

Can I get a subsidy to install a home charger?

There is currently no national subsidy available for individuals installing a home charger. However, some municipalities do have local programs or incentives to encourage installation—these might include subsidies or other financial support.

Are day and night rates supported?

At the moment we do support dynamic energy tariffs. We will roll out day and night tariffs later this year.

Does BlueBird Power install the home charger?

Wij installeren niet zelf, maar werken met partners.

Do you supply the P1 dongle?

The P1 dongle is not included with our chargers, as some customers might already have one at home. We are currently integrating multiple brands, but we hear the best reviews from our customers and therefore recommend the HomeWizard P1 Meter.

What should I consider when buying a home charger?

Here are the key points:

  • Do you need a 1-phase or 3-phase charger?
  • Will the charger be wall- or pole-mounted?
  • Do you have solar panels? Then get a charger with solar optimisation
  • Choose one that’s easy to install
  • Pick a bidirectional charger if you want to be future-proof
  • Can the charger automatically optimise for dynamic energy rates?

What is the best home charger?

One that meets your needs and isn’t too expensive. Your needs depend on the answers to the questions above.

What do you need for a home charger?

You’ll need three things: a suitable grid connection, a separate circuit in your fuse box, and a power cable running from your fuse box to the location of the charger.

Can I use a Wi-Fi booster to connect my BlueSky charger to the P1 dongle?

Yes, this is possible. Using a Wi-Fi signal booster won't cause any problems, as the charger and the P1 dongle are still connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

How does my BlueBird Power charging station connect to the internet?

The BlueBird Power chargers can connect wirelessly to WiFi and are also equipped with an Ethernet connection.

Can the power cable be connected from the back of the charger?

Yes, the cable can be connected through the back. To do this, make a notch in the rubber membrane on the back of the charger and feed your cable through this, instead of through the gland on the bottom of the charger.

Can the charging cable be replaced?

Yes, the cable can be replaced, provided the inner cables are not thicker than 2.5mm².

Does dynamic load balancing work if my laadpunt is connected via Ethernet while my P1 dongle is not?

Yes, as long as the P1 dongle and the charger are on the same network, it does not matter whether the charger is connected via WiFi or Ethernet.

What type of connector does the tethered charger use?

Our tethered charger is equipped with a Type 2 connector, the European standard for charging electric vehicles. The socket version doesn't have a fixed cable and can be used with your own charging cable.

What is bidirectional charging and can your charger do it?

Bidirectional charging means your car can not only be charged but also discharged. This turns your car into a mobile home battery, saving you more money through smart charging. For example, charge your car during the day using solar energy and run your washing machine at night using solar power stored in your car. The BlueSky charger is already prepared for bidirectional charging. Once the technology becomes widely available, your charger will be ready.

How do you start a charging session, with a card or app?

Charging sessions are initiated via the mobile app, not with a charging card or trickle charge.

What do I need to use load balancing?

Load balancing works by pairing the HomeWizard P1 dongle with the charger via the app. The app provides step-by-step instructions.

What does 'Bidirectional ready' mean?

This means the hardware is ready for bidirectional charging. The necessary software update can be performed remotely in the future once vehicles support it.

What is the difference between a 'Socket' and 'Tethered' charging station?

The "Socket" version has a socket where you can plug in your own cable. The "Tethered" version comes with a fixed charging cable.

Can I switch from single-phase charging to three-phase charging later?

Yes, the charger can initially be set to 1-phase and later to 3-phase, provided you have purchased a 3-phase charger.

What are the points of attention for my electrician during installation?

The installer can use a type A residual current device (RCD). We recommend fusing the charger at 20A (B characteristic) instead of 16A.

Can I still use the product if the app malfunctions?

We have a safe offline mode so that in the event of a malfunction you can still charge, but at a lower speed (6A).

Do the BlueSky chargers have dynamic load balancing and a data connection?

Yes, our chargers support Dynamic Load Balancing when used with a P1 dongle. The chargers also have a data cable connection.

How do I create an account?

We will create an account for you at your email address, after which you can reset your password. We will usually send you your account and login information for the BlueBird Power App when we ship your charger. If you've already received your charger and haven't received a registration email, check your spam folder and contact us at info@bluebirdpower.com.

Where does the app get its data from?

Data about your consumption and solar energy is collected locally via the P1 dongle. Dynamic rates are retrieved online; fixed rates are not.

Is your product sufficient to settle the charging sessions for business purposes?

Yes, that's possible. The energy meter is built-in as standard and MID-compliant (Measuring Instrument Directive).

Does the charger have a certified MID meter for ERE certificates?

The charger includes a meter that meets the measurement accuracy requirements for MID meters. However, for official use in applying for ERE certificates, MID certification of the entire charger is required. This certification is currently being performed by an inspection agency.
