These charging stations enable households to charge their electric vehicles directly using electricity from their solar panels. This makes direct charging with your own solar energy possible without first feeding the electricity back into the grid.

According to BlueBird Power, this approach enables homeowners to use more locally generated renewable energy. It can also reduce their reliance on grid electricity and help limit peak demand on the electricity network.

How direct charging with your own solar energy works

The charging stations automatically adjust their charging power according to the amount of available solar energy. Thanks to dynamic phase switching, the system can seamlessly change between charging modes when solar production is limited.

As more solar energy becomes available, the charging capacity automatically increases again. This ensures that as much locally generated electricity as possible is used.

According to BlueBird Power, this solves a common challenge in the market. Many EV chargers and electric vehicles require a minimum charging power of 4.2 kW for three-phase charging.

In practice, solar panels often produce less than this amount, meaning electricity must still be drawn from the grid. The intelligent phase-switching technology overcomes this limitation. It allows charging to continue when sufficient solar energy is available while helping to reduce peak demand on the grid.
