Ready to charge with your own solar energy?

Combine your solar panels with smart charging technology and maximize your savings.

Step 1: Decide whether you want a single-phase or three-phase charger

When choosing a home charger, it’s important to know whether you need a single-phase or three-phase charger. That depends on two things: your grid connection and your electric vehicle.

You can check your connection type on the smart meter provided by your grid operator. How exactly? Read this article. With our single-phase charger, you can charge at 7.4 kW. With our three-phase charger, you can charge at 11 kW.

Don’t have a three-phase connection yet? You can upgrade your grid connection through your grid operator. For both single and three-phase chargers, our smart Home Load Balancing automatically adjusts charging when your overall power consumption gets too high. That way, you get the most out of your home charger.

Step 2: Decide whether you want a pole or wall-mounted charger

Want to mount the charger on a wall?

That’s easy with our mounting plate, which is included as standard. Prefer a pole-mounted setup? We offer several options for that as well.

If you already have a mounting pole, BlueBird provides adapters so you can easily replace your old charger without digging or replacing the pole. Convenient and sustainable.

If you’d prefer a new mounting pole, that’s also possible — just contact us at info@bluebirdpower.com.

Step 3: Decide whether you need any accessories

Already have a mounting pole?

Simply order an adapter plate. For smart features like Home Load Balancing and True Solar Optimisation, a P1 dongle for your smart meter is required.

Step 4: Decide whether you need an installer

Modifications to the electrical panel may only be carried out by a certified installer.

But the great thing is: installing the charger yourself is very simple. All you need is a wire stripper and a screwdriver. The power cables can be connected without any additional tools. The order is clearly indicated inside the charger. You’ll also find step-by-step instructions in the app.

Thanks to this smart design, you save on installation costs and keep the process in your own hands.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a home charger cost?

A home charger typically costs between €500 and €1200 incl. VAT. Advanced chargers fall on the higher end of this range. We think that’s too expensive. Thanks to our smart design, we’re at the lower end—even though our charger uses premium components and offers the most advanced features.

How much does it cost to install a home charger?

Installing a home charger typically costs between €300 and €1000. It depends on the condition of your fuse box and whether (and how much) digging is required.

Can I get a subsidy to install a home charger?

There is currently no national subsidy available for individuals installing a home charger. However, some municipalities do have local programs or incentives to encourage installation—these might include subsidies or other financial support.

What should I consider when buying a home charger?

Here are the key points:

  • Do you need a 1-phase or 3-phase charger?
  • Will the charger be wall- or pole-mounted?
  • Do you have solar panels? Then get a charger with solar optimisation
  • Choose one that’s easy to install
  • Pick a bidirectional charger if you want to be future-proof
  • Can the charger automatically optimise for dynamic energy rates?

What is the best home charger?

One that meets your needs and isn’t too expensive. Your needs depend on the answers to the questions above.

What do you need for a home charger?

You’ll need three things: a suitable grid connection, a separate circuit in your fuse box, and a power cable running from your fuse box to the location of the charger.

What is bidirectional charging and can your charger do it?

Bidirectional charging means your car can not only be charged but also discharged. This turns your car into a mobile home battery, saving you more money through smart charging. For example, charge your car during the day using solar energy and run your washing machine at night using solar power stored in your car. The BlueSky charger is already prepared for bidirectional charging. Once the technology becomes widely available, your charger will be ready.

How can I charge with my solar panels?

The charger detects when your solar panels are generating power. We do this using a P1 dongle connected to your smart meter. This lets us adjust the charging speed in real time to the amount of solar energy you’re producing—completely automatically, no action needed.
